Stop and Frisk

In 2018, JAMS Panelist Ariel Belen completed a three-and-a-half year project facilitating the resolution of issues that arose when the NYPD’s Stop and Frisk practices were deemed unconstitutional. In this video, he describes the history and roots of the problems that lead to the S&F court case, the extensive efforts he and his team took to resolve the issues, and the outcome and final report. This one-hour video succinctly distills a fascinating and important episode in the history of race and policing in America, and JAMS is fortunate to have this exclusive interview from the person at epicenter of the criminal justice reform in the largest city, with the largest police force, in the country. (As a bonus, the link to the final report is attached.)
